My name is Alfonso Petrirena. Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, from a vasque family, I've been traveling, surfing, and taking pictures for many years. Some time ago I decided to blend it all together into my profession.
Nowadays I live and work in Playa Negra, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. In this area nature, waves, wind and sun join together to create a perfect natural surf studio, and of course perfect surf. There are good waves everywhere and good conditions most days.
Although surfing and taking pictures have no language, I'll point that I'm multilingual in English, French, Spanish of course, and that I get away with Portuguese, Italian and some more.
Every morning I shoot the surf at Playa Negra, and sell the photos. Usually I take my pictures from land, but if I feel like it and conditions are good I will use my waterproof gear, in order to get close to the action.
I work on request as well, especially on water photography, and one or several day tours anywhere in the country, or anywhere else in Centro America (Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador), countries which I know quite well.
Since one of my good friends is owner of the Playa Negra Surf School I shoot a lot of kids and beginners in their first days of surfing. The kids love it, and so do the parents !
Even though here in Guanacaste we live a bit isolated from the rest of the world, I get some of my pictures published in magazines, web pages as well as advertisement and some other local projects.
